Et d'ailleurs ce n'est pas du Silmarillion dont il est question ici. Bilbo le Hobbit est la préquelle du SdA, ce qui n'est pas le cas de Les Aventures de Tom Bombadil (LAdTB). Bilbo s'inscrit largement dans l'univers de la Terre du Milieu, bien plus que LAdTB.
H. Carpenter dit bien dans "J.R.R. Tolkien, une biographie" (pp. 194,195), à propos de "Bilbo le Hobbit" :

TB a été inséré dans le SdA, pas Bilbo (Letters n°235 p. 315) :
