Ici je suis à 1000% pas d'accord (ce qui permet de relancer la discussion, pratique !). Il m'a semblé assez clair, à la lecture des quelques lettres que j'ai lues ça et là, que pour Tolkien, ce qu'il y a de vraiment orc, c'est le règne de la machine. Il y a cette lettre assez forte à Christopher Tolkien qui montre bien comme tout est troublé :

La victoire de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, l'emploi de la bombe, ce ne sont pas là des vraies victoires ; il me semble que c'est assez clair ! Sans doute, justement, le combat de notre âge se joue-t-il encore.
Pour le Déluge, oui, c'est une idée qui paraît bonne.
